Keertanam Bhakti – Second step on the Nine – Fold path of Devotion

Keertanam Bhakti is the second form of devotion which means singing/praising the glories or divine names of the Lord with love and devotion. While singing, the devotee combines one’s voice, tune and rhythm to the melody of the devotional song and the act itself becomes an outpouring for the love of divine.
The benefits of singing devotional songs accompanied with ‘MUSIC’ does magic on one’s soul, sometimes the sentiments may be flowing like a river of tears. It purifies the mind, the whole environment and draws divine grace.

There are many instances in Shri Sai Satcharita where Baba would encourage devotees to perform keertan during major festivals like Rama Navami in Shirdi.

Chapter 15 of Shri Sai Satcharita mentions how Baba himself entrusted the work of performing Keertan to Shri Das Ganu Maharaj permanently. He even explained in detail the Method of Naradiya Kirtan-Paddhati.

(The sage Narada, from whom the Kirtan-Paddhati originated, carried a ‘veena’ in his hand, and wandered from place to place everywhere singing the glory of the Lord).

Sharing few more Quotes from Chapter 3 of Shri Sai Satcharita giving the importance of “KEERTANAM”

Then, turning to Shama (Madhavrao Deshpande) Sai Baba said, “If a man utters My name with love, I shall fulfil all his wishes, increase his devotion. And if he sings earnestly My life and My deeds, him I shall beset in front and back and on all sides.

“Those devotees, who are attached to Me, heart and soul, will naturally feel happiness, when they hear these stories, believe me that, if anybody sings My Leelas, I will give him infinite joy and everlasting contentment”.

Utmost important is to chant & sing baba’s name with pure love, love and only love, alone or with others. It is the easiest, purest and simplest of sadhanas to be practiced in Kaliyug for one’s spiritual well-being.
